TELL YOUR SENATOR THAT SPORTSMEN AND WOMEN WANT FOREST MANAGEMENT REFORM AND A FIRE FUNDING FIX NOW
Enough is enough — Congress can’t let another budget deal go by without passing legislation to reform the way we manage our forests. Big-game species, like whitetails and elk need nutritional browse that can’t grow if pine, fir, and juniper trees encroach too far, and it takes active management to keep native species from being pushed out. Prescribed burning and removal of diseased trees not only help improve fish and wildlife habitat, but also helps avoid catastrophic wildfires, which continue to erode the Forest Service’s annual budget due to fire suppression costs. Wildfire suppression costs the Forest Service more than 56 percent of its annual funds, which is expected to surpass two thirds of the budget by 2021 if we don’t act soon.
Take action now and urge Senators to include forest management reform and a fire funding fix in the next budget deal. Use our twitter action tool below to tweet your support for fixing our forests and finding a fire funding solution.
