Reports to: Chief Development Officer (located in Washington, DC)
Location: Washington, DC or Remote (proximity to a major airport is a plus)
As a member of the Development team, the Director of Program Development plays a critical role in raising major financial support to further the mission of the Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership (TRCP). This newly created position will, under the purview of the Chief Development Officer and CEO, help design, develop and implement TRCP’s major gift program, including identifying, managing and cultivating relationships with major gift prospects. An ability to clearly communicate TRCP’s mission is key. The Director of Program Development will be expected to energize team members, persuade prospects and execute events across the country. Ability to travel frequently is required.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
• Help TRCP donors accomplish their philanthropic goals through a relationship with TRCP.
• Help analyze TRCP file and identify major gift candidates.
• Manage existing portfolio of high net worth donors and prospects.
• Work with the Chief Development Officer and CEO to align efforts and set goals.
• Manage donor prospecting and stewardship to help secure major gifts at the $5,000 and above level with the goal of raising $500,000 annually.
• Make direct, face-to-face solicitations, and assist the Board and other staff with their solicitation.
• Manage systems and software to track and cultivate donors and prospects, including our donor database and wealth screening tools.
• Acknowledge major donors through public and private recognition.
• Track and report progress using specific metrics.
• With the Development team, conceptualize, plan, and staff donor cultivation events (i.e. dinners, cocktail parties, and hunting/fishing trips) throughout the country.
• Assist the Washington, DC-based Development team with the planning and execution of the annual Capital Conservation Awards Dinner (2020 event: April 29).
• Collaborate with the Development team on weekly check-in calls and in cross-departmental strategy sessions as it pertains to individual, corporate and foundation giving.
• Represent the TRCP when the CEO and/or Chief Development Officer is not available.
• Assist with other tasks as needed.
• 7-10 years of nonprofit development experience with a focus on major gift solicitation and a track record of securing six-figure gifts from individual prospects.
• Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s Degree in related field desired.
• Passion for conservation, hunting and fishing and ability to discuss conservation policy topics required.
• Proficient with e-mail, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, Donor Management Software.
• Self-starter with an outgoing nature.
• Problem solver and strategic thinker.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
• Strong organizational and project management skills.
• Detail oriented and a team player.
• Demonstrated ability to interact positively in many different settings with the public, donors, Board members, volunteers, staff members, corporations, and other funding sources.
• Experience and comfort with cold-calling potential donors and continuing communications with all potential and current donors.
• Strong sense of humor; our work is hard, yet hopeful. Laughing together is essential.
• Ability to work virtually and independently.
• Performs well with varying, travel-heavy schedule.
