Wednesday, July 17

11:00 A.M. – 1:00 P.M.

Offshore Energy Development: Generating additional sources of sustainable, low-carbon energy will be key to addressing climate change, and this currently includes the installation of offshore wind turbines. But how does installation of these semi-permanent structures affect offshore fishing?

Confirmed panelists:

  • John Walter, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration
  • Chris Macaluso, Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership
  • Mike Waine, American Sportfishing Association
  • Anderson Tran, Office of Rep. Garret Graves (LA)

The Effects of Shark Depredation on Recreational Fisheries: Anglers are increasingly reporting losing sportfish to sharks, prior to landing or just after release. This is especially true in Florida’s saltwater fisheries. A panel of experts and charter captains will discuss what’s happening, possible reasons, and what might be done to address it.

Confirmed panelists:

  • Randy Blankinship, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration
  • Mike Leonard, American Sportfishing Association
  • Jeffrey Liederman, Offshore Fisherman & Tackle Specialist
  • Jessica McCawley, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission
